Yesterday the rising rock/pop band from Woking, Sour Kix, released their new track ‘Please Me’. The band’s upbeat, electric performances have gained much popularity and attention over the past few years, giving them the opportunity to support and open festivals with acts such as Kaiser Chiefs, Jessie J, Scouting For Girls and The Vamps.
Fronted by Amelie and her powerful vocals, the band is made up of Ed’s groovy bass lines, Louis and Andries’ refreshing guitar riffs and Ollie’s talented drum fills. Combined, the band bring an uplifting and exciting vibe to their music and are definitely ones to watch. Their 2019 single release ‘Gone’ has accumulated over 13,000 streams on Spotify alone, meaning this new release is sure to become a quick hit.
‘Please Me’ is a genre-bending new tune, with rock-pop melodies and guitar solos, as well as country style undertones, inspired by bands such as ‘The Strypes’ and ‘Rascal Flatts’. It is certain that this tune will not disappoint across a wide audience and is therefore worth a listen.
I spoke to Ed, the bassist, who talked through the meaning behind the song. He stated, “the song’s about wanting someone to want you and be with you”. Although this may seem sombre, the track tells a different story. It’s a feel-good tune and undeniably makes you want to get up and dance! Louis also spoke of the recording experience of the track at Sticky Studios, in Windlesham, where the likes of Shawn Mendes, One Direction and Ed Sheeran have had their work produced and mixed. “Not only was it hugely inspiring to work in a place where such success had been crafted, the making of the track was very enjoyable and came so naturally with the help of the brilliant producer Adam Coltman”.
In further conversations with Ed about how the band has progressed, he spoke positively about their future, amidst everything going on and their upcoming festivals and gigs being postponed, due to the Coronavirus. “More recently, our songs have developed and so has our writing process. Being able to write better songs has thus enabled 2 more single releases to be scheduled, along with talks about a possible 2nd EP”. This is exciting news for both the band and the Sour Kix fans.
